Storia– La North British è la sola distilleria rimasta ad Edimburgo, si trova ne sobborgo di Gorgie. Fu fondata nel 1885 da un gruppo di importanti blender; mantenne la proprio indipendenza fino al 1993 quando fu acquisita dal gruppo Edrington e dalla Diageo. Dotata di ben tre alambicchi Coffey che producono ogni anno circa 64 milioni di litri di grain whisky. La NB è l’unica distilleria di grain whisky che malta in proprio e che distilla dal mais piuttosto che dal più economico frumento; inoltre utilizza una percentuale di “malto verde” del 15% rispetto al consueto 10% di malto in polvere usato dalle altre distillerie con notevoli risultati sul prodotto.

Carattere – whisky ricco e saporito, molto più piccante e pungente di quello distillato dal frumento e dotato di più evidenti note di vaniglia, caratteristiche del mais.

History: The North British distillery was established in 1885, it is the only distillery located in Edinburgh, Gorgie. Nort British remained with indipendent property unitl 1993 then it was purchased by the Edrington group and by Diageo. It has 3 Coffey stills which produce 64 milions of litres per year of grain whisky. NB malted his own barley and it distilled from corn rather than from a common wheat. Furthermore it use 15% of green malt instead the normal 10 % of powder malt.

 

Character: It is a rich flavoured whisky, spicy and thanks to corn we are able to perceive vanilla and corn trace.
