C: Caramello con venature giallo paglierino.
N: Naso non indimenticabile ma decisamente ricco: sherry, Mon Chéri, vaniglia e miele conferiscono al distillato quella dolcezza che lo caratterizza; verrebbe da dire zuppa inglese. Non trascurabili però sono le note fruttate: ananas (molta ananas) e pesca matura. Leggeri sentori di legno bagnato fanno poi capolino, accompagnati da sale e limone. Per finire, menta e nocciola.
P: Fatta eccezione forse per i primi istanti, la dolcezza che avvolgeva le narici inebriandole non è riscontrabile nell’esame gustativo, dove una nota di mela verde si appoggia su un substrato salmastro. Una crescente salinità con intermezzi fruttati (fragola?) si fa largo insieme con una nota vegetale, amarognola come la cicoria. Noci appena raccolte. Il corpo è molto poco viscoso, quindi tè, camomilla.
F: Difficilmente inquadrabile perché etichettabile come evanescente, ma allo stesso tempo capace di trasmettere una permeante e persistente sensazione di calore. Bastoncini di liquirizia si affiancano a sentori salmastri ed amarognoli negli ultimi aliti di vita del distillato.
Un Balvenie che scivola in gola con molta semplicità, ma la mancanza di un carattere ben definito ce lo fa ritenere non imprescindibile, ed il voto vuole evidenziare anche questo aspetto.

C: Caramel, with pale-yellow glares.
N: Something that is maybe not unforgettable, but very rich: sherry, Mon Chéri, vanilla and honey bestow the distillate with the sweetness, one of the main characteristic of this Balvenie; we had some reminiscence of trifle. At the same time there are some fruity notes: pineapple (a lot of pineapple) and very ripe peach. Light scents of wet wood, along with salt and lemon, make a late appearance; in the end, mint and hazelnut.
P: Remarkable difference with the nose, meaning that you could have the impression that the whisky you are drinking is not the same you have just smelled. Green apple goes along with salty taste that constantly increases, leaving sometimes the scene to some fruity smells (strawberry?); contextually, it is possible to notice a vegetable, slightly bitter note trying to emerge. Walnuts. Body is not viscous at all like tea, camomille.
F: Finishing is not easy to describe, since we had contrasting impressions: vanishing at first, but also a permeating and consistent feeling of warmth. Licorice goes along salty and slightly bitter notes in the last breaths of life of the distillate.
This Balvenie results very easy to drink, but the lack of a well-defined character makes it not essential; the final grade is also a direct consequence of this consideration.
